Here’s a comparison between the original Obama photograph and how The Economist used it, as discussed in the podcast. We should point out that we’ve lifted this illustration from Mike Johnston’s The Online Photographer blog while he was away on holiday. Please go and visit it. It is one of the best photography blogs being produced.

With thanks to The Online Photographer. Please visit Mike Johnston's site. It is one of the best photography blogs going.
There was another incident of altered photographs related to the Gulf spill. This time involving BP itself. You can read more about that here: BP Doctors Photographs.
On a more positive note, here is some of Sheena Jolley’s wonderful wildlife photography. We interviewed Sheena just after the opening of her gallery in Kinsale.
You can see more of Sheena’s work here: www.sheenajolleyphotography.com
And here’s a quick grab shot of Sheena outside her new gallery in Kinsale, Co. Cork:

In Episode 2, I briefly mentioned that Amateur Photographer magazine had released a lens cloth with the UK stop and search rules printed on it. A few days later, WarehouseExpress in the UK asked for retweets on Twitter. The first 50 would be sent one of the cloths. A quick video of its arrival on Roger’s desk:
And finally, here are your hosts in action during the recording of Episode 3.

Great episode guys, well done!
PS: is that Peter doing mating calls in the last picture above?
It wasn’t too far from that, as I recall. I think the excuse was to check if both mikes were recording =)
Sounds like that Stalin button is a hit then. Given that it is causing such consternation in the media. It sounds to me like people are using this new toy wherever thay can and getting into trouble.
I loved the podcast. I am a fan of Sheena Jolley’s work so it was great to hear her being interviewed. Good job. One of the highlights of the Kinsale Arts festival has been seeing Sheenas new work. I usually bring kids and buggies with me into her house to see the photos. She was always friendly and accomodating!
Thanks Kevin – yes, the Stalin button is certainly getting a lot of use these days. I expect this will taper off as the novelty wears off, and the controversy increases.
Glad you enjoyed the podcast. Sheena is indeed an enthusiastic and engaging photographer – we enjoyed interviewing her.
Hi, loved your podcast, you all have great ‘radio’ voices. As someone living in Kinsale and being a fan of Sheena’s work – it is super – it was great to hear your interview with her. The podcast really brings the business of photography to life, the work, the focus, the hours, technology, business success etc there is so much more than the photographs in the background. Loved the photos in the blog too.
Thank you Julie,
Sheena is an inspirational photographer and we were thrilled to spend time with her.
Good job lads,
I was particularly interested in your discussion of the ‘Stalin’ button. It drives home the point that we should be mindful of the accuracy of images and news that we view in the media, whether it is ‘airbrushed’ celebs or misleading impressions.
I’m looking forward to dropping in to Sheena’s gallery next time I’m in Kinsale and wonder if you might consider a discussion of the Irish/non-Irish Photographers that you find inspiring, creative, revolutionary, etc.
Keep up the good work!!
First time listener. I really enjoyed the topics, and you guys have a nice back and forth style. And then I left the player rolling through to the outtakes—you made water come out my nose. That’s not a good look…
Thanks!
Thanks Jim.
We’re planning some changes to the podcast, so make sure you listen out for episode 4 at the end of the month.
Glad to hear your podcast. So much info out there for other markets and not our own. A breath of fresh air in my opinion. We are heading into very hard financial future and this will pose its problems. Lets hope some of us can come up with some photographic plates like Ansel Adams. lol
Thanks for your comment Patrick.
I’m holding out for a lottery win.
Hi Peter and Roger,
This was the first time I’ve listened to your podcast. I felt like I was there! I agreed with both of you on the business vs creativity topics. I’ve been struggling with earning enough money to have a life, through photography since 1967 when I first worked with Minor White. Here I am (now 67) still struggling and still enjoying!!
Keep up the good work. Roger, good luck in Holland, and Peter, Hope to see you before we meet at the Wagon Wheel!
Best,
Ron
Hi Ron -
Glad you enjoyed the podcast. Certainly photography isn’t an easy way to make a living – but you’ve certainly managed to carve out a satisfying career!
I won’t be seeing you at the Wagon Wheel this year as with our first child on the way I’ve decided to not teach at Williams for the foreseeable. I’d hope to make it up to Hillcrest at some stage before next August, though.
Peter
Thank you for your kind words Ron. The Holland adventure will no doubt feature in a future episode at some point.
Roger
Hi there
I’m enjoying the topics and style of your podcasts – great work.
Peter I notice at one stage you offered limited edition prints but now in general offer open editions. It would be great if you could give your views on this (I imagine) much discussed topic in photography.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge and entertainment
Peter
Hi Peter -
Thanks for the comment. This is indeed something we’ll be discussing in a future podcast!
Cheers,
Peter
Hi Peter and Roger

Claire
Hi Claire,
Didn’t know that. Thank you for pointing it out. Wonder if it’ll mean more downloads?
Finalizing tomorrow’s podcast blog post at the moment.
It should go live at 10am.
